Apple Watch Ultra 4: Biggest Upgrades You Need to Know

Apple Watch Ultra 4: Biggest Upgrades You Need to Know

Apple Watch Ultra 4 Is Here: What’s New?

Apple has officially introduced the Apple Watch Ultra 4, bringing a new generation of performance, health tracking, AI-powered features, and battery improvements to Apple's rugged smartwatch lineup.

While the overall design remains familiar, the Ultra 4 focuses heavily on what's happening inside the watch.

The biggest changes include the new S11 chip, upgraded heart sensors, more frequent health measurements, a new Readiness feature, new Siri Audio Intelligence capabilities, and longer battery life.

So, what exactly has changed?

Here are the 10 biggest Apple Watch Ultra 4 upgrades.

1. New S11 Chip

The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is powered by Apple's new S11 chip, replacing the S10 used in the previous generation.

The new processor isn't simply about making apps open faster.

It also provides the computing power needed for several of the Ultra 4's new health and AI features.

This includes Apple's new Audio Intelligence capabilities and more advanced processing of sensor data.

2. More Advanced Heart Sensors

One of the most significant hardware changes is the upgraded heart-sensing system.

Apple Watch Ultra 4 features new optical and electrical heart sensors, along with larger and more power-efficient green LEDs.

The new sensor system allows the watch to take heart-rate readings as frequently as every five seconds.

Heart-rate variability can also be measured more frequently, with readings potentially taken every five minutes.

For people who use Apple Watch for training and recovery, this is one of the most meaningful upgrades.

3. New Readiness Feature

Apple is also introducing Readiness on Ultra 4.

The feature analyzes factors such as:

  • Recent activity
  • Training load
  • Health metrics
  • Sleep

It then provides a score and guidance intended to help users understand how ready they may be for the day ahead.

For athletes, this could be particularly useful.

Instead of simply asking:

“How much did I train?”

you can start thinking about:

“How ready am I to train today?”

4. New Siri Audio Intelligence

The Ultra 4 also gains new AI-powered audio capabilities.

Apple calls these features Audio Intelligence.

They include features such as:

  • Sound Recognition
  • Live Rewind
  • Siri Recap

Live Rewind can help users revisit recently spoken information, while Siri Recap can generate summaries of conversations.

These features are designed with privacy protections built into the S11 chip's Secure Exclave. Apple says raw audio is processed in protected hardware rather than stored as an ordinary audio recording.

5. Up to 50 Hours of Battery Life

Battery life gets a substantial upgrade.

Apple Watch Ultra 4 can provide up to 50 hours of normal use, compared with up to 42 hours for Ultra 3.

Low Power Mode can extend battery life to up to 84 hours.

For hikers, travelers, and outdoor users, this is a major practical improvement.

6. Longer Workout Tracking

The Ultra 4 also improves endurance during workouts.

Apple says Extended Workout mode can provide up to 25 hours of GPS tracking and continuous heart-rate monitoring.

A more aggressive Max Extended Workout mode can provide up to 45 hours for activities such as outdoor running, walking, and hiking.

That's particularly relevant for long-distance athletes and outdoor adventurers.

7. Faster Charging

The new Ultra 4 also supports faster charging.

Apple says approximately 15 minutes of charging can provide up to 12 hours of battery life under its specified conditions.

That means a short charging session can be much more useful before heading out for the day.

8. Natural and Black Titanium

Apple Watch Ultra 4 continues with a titanium construction and is available in Natural Titanium and Black Titanium finishes.

That makes the band even more important from a style perspective.

A titanium watch case paired with a premium titanium band creates a cohesive metal aesthetic.

9. Familiar Ultra Design

The Ultra 4 isn't a complete visual redesign.

Instead, Apple has focused heavily on internal improvements while retaining the recognizable Ultra form factor.

For existing Ultra owners, that's important when considering accessories.

The overall Ultra design language remains familiar, but users should always confirm exact compatibility when purchasing a new band or accessory.

10. The Same $799 Starting Price

Despite the upgrades, Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at $799 in the US, the same starting price reported for the previous generation.

What Does the Ultra 4 Upgrade Really Mean?

The biggest story isn't one individual feature.

It's the combination of:

More powerful processing + better sensors + more intelligent software + longer battery life.

The Ultra 4 is becoming less of a traditional fitness watch and more of a personal health, fitness, productivity, and AI device.

And if you're upgrading to the Ultra 4, there's one more part of the experience worth considering:

the band.

A premium titanium band can complement the titanium Ultra case for business, travel, and everyday wear, while an FKM sport band can be a better choice for workouts and outdoor activities.
